Changes to 2012-2013 Federal Student Aid for Graduates

The Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 was signed into law on August 2, 2011. The U.S. Department of Education issued a Dear Colleague letter [Gen-11-16] to All Post Secondary Institutions regarding the changes commencing July 1, 2012. This Act makes two changes to the Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program.

First:
Graduate and professional students are no longer eligible to receive Federal Direct Subsidized Loans for all loans processed on or after July 1, 2012. All previously disbursed loans prior to July 1, 2012 are not affected by this change.

Second:
All discount fee rebates for both undergraduate and graduate level students will be terminated. This provision, in effect terminates DL Borrower Repayment Incentives:

Termination of Repayment incentives to DL borrowers to encourage on-time repayment of loans including:

  • Any reduction in the interest rate, or;
  • Origination fees
  • Up-front interest rebate

Also affected by the changes are Direct Parent PLUS/Grad PLUS Programs.

The law continues to authorize the incentive offer of a reduction to the interest rate for DL borrowers who opt to have electronic payments automatically debited from a bank account.

If you have any questions, please contact the MaryHelen Dorado, Extended Ed Financial Aid Counselor, at 831-582-3554 or mdorado@csumb.edu.

My Employer wants to pay my tuition to CSUMB: Third Party payment instructions

Fees are due at time of registration.  If your employer would like to pay for your tuition, they will need to complete the steps listed below.

Prior to the term start, students may have their employer request a formal agreement to pay CSUMB directly. This is called a Third Party contract

Once a signed agreement from the employer is submitted and accepted, CSUMB will invoice the employer.

Students are still responsible for all unpaid fees that are not covered by the Third Party contract.

  1. Download the Employer Payment Authorization template pdf (opens in a new browser tab/window).
  2. Provide your employer with your CSUMB Student ID (9 digits), not your OtterID (4 letters/4 digits)
  3. Your employer may use this template for content.
  4. The official authorization letter is to be submitted on company letterhead and signed.
  5. This authorization is to be term and year specific with a maximum amount allowed.

Note:  Students receiving employer paid tuition reimbursements after a class ends, are required to pay fees upfront at time of registration.  Students may seek financial aid for fee assistance.

My Employer requires a Tuition Statement for reimbursement of fees

Please submit your request to your Student Success Advisor.

Your request is to include the term/year and course # that you would like the Tuition Statement to reflect.  The form will be emailed to you and you may submit this form to your employer.

The form will reflect (Yes or No) if you have successfully completed the course with a grade of B or Better.  The form will not list your specific grade.  If required, you may obtain this information from your Student Center.

An Application for Graduation is required for all students planning to graduate with a Bachelor or Master Degree from California State University, Monterey Bay.

Submit your Graduate Application

"Day of" Commencement Instructions

Spectators
Guests enter the stadium and take a seat by 9:15am in the unassigned seating.  Spectators should be prepared with sunscreen and for chilly breezes in the stands.

Attention Graduates
The graduates gather on the South side of the parking lot. Generally, just follow all the other people in gowns.  There are guides that will point you in the right direction.

Once in the staging area, look for a sign that says Business.  There is a separate banner for the MBA program.  Business and MBA will likely be close.

Entering the stadium:
Organizers will assist each group. Dr. Murray Millson will be leading, as he does every year.  The procession goes around a long way and enters the stadium on the track.  The total procession is just under a mile. This goes by very quickly with all the pomp and circumstance.

After the ceremony:
Graduates file out and are met on the center field by families and friends. At that time, the event is concluded.

Special Attention:
Wear sunscreen and have sunglasses handy.
Weather varies; usually warm enough for graduates on the field and in gowns.

The entire event takes a couple of hours, so a bottle of water is often needed.

Remember that this is "Your Day".
Congratulations and enjoy every moment!
